How To: Link your “Education and Work” in Facebook to REAL Pages instead of Community Pages
I thought it was pretty cool of facebook to include where you work and went to school etc. on the top of my profile, but I felt like I was losing a lot of potential fan page traffic by having it link to a community page which contained the non-existent Wikipedia entry as opposed to the actual page for the company. I am going to show you here how to change it so that instead of going to the “Community Page” it will lead to and have the thumbnail for your actual company. So, jumping right in.. First thing you have to do is install this Chrome Extension, it is also a fire fox add on but I use chrome so that’s what this guide is going to use
I’m sure most of you are intelligent enough to figure it out for firefox from this.. The exension is called Web Developer. After you have installed it, log in to facebook Click “Profile” at the top of the page and then “Edit Profile.” Next in the side bar you want to choose Education and Word. Next to Employer, enter the name (it really doesn’t matter what you enter, it will be replaced by the page name later) – Hit Enter.
Now, click the Web Developer icon, click Forms, then turn on “Display Form Details”

Now it will look intimidating, but trust me it’s not so bad… where it says <input autocomplete=”off” name=”employer_id”> then there is an input box, enter the id NUMBER of the page you want to display. Then click Add Job. Now you can turn the Form Details back off, the same way you turned it on.

If you do not know the id #, simply go to the page you want to link to, if it is YOUR PAGE hover over “Edit Page” below the image, if it is NOT your page, hover over Report Page on the bottom of the left sidebar. RIGHT CLICK the link and select COPY LINK ADDRESS.. now paste it into notepad or on the address bar.. if you chose “Report Page” the URL will look like “http://www.facebook.com/ajax/report.php?content_type=23&cid=18807449704&h=AQC2QWvJMAKUVWpD” The Numbers after cid is where you will find the page’s id. If it is your page and you chose edit, “http://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/?id=235073368569&sk=basic” it is the id=.
And that’s all there is to it! Now you can edit it and modify your projects, position, date, etc as normal and your “Work” will link through to an actual page instead of the community page.
